The sheltered northern end of Coniston Water is a haven for open water swimmers. The absence of boat traffic and the gently shelving shoreline means swimmers can enjoy the experience of “wild” swimming in a relatively safe environment.
Access to the lake is at the head of Coniston via Monk Coniston car park.
There are many swimming events held on Coniston Water, namely the Coniston Epic Lakes Swim and Chillswim Coniston if you fancy testing your abilities.
