Lanehead’s location on the lower slopes of Grizedale Forest makes it the perfect base for trail running enthusiasts. Directly across the road is the start of a network of paths and trails that fan out onto the Grizedale ridge. From there runners can enjoy some of the finest trail running terrain and events in the UK with limitless options that take in lakes, streams, meadows and unspoilt villages.
We have mapped out various routes on Strava all of which start and end at Lanehead allowing our guests to benchmark their runs against fellow athletes.
For those runners looking for more of a challenge, a short jog down to Coniston brings you to the footsteps of the Old Man of Coniston and its neighbouring peaks of Wetherlam, Swirl How and Dow Crag. The high level routes connecting these peaks comprise classic fell running terrain with stunning views out to the coast, back down onto Coniston Water and across to Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak.
